What is China bristle?

China bristle is natural hog bristle. White China bristle brushes such as this Wooster 6" are used with oil-based paints, stains, polyurethanes and varnishes rather than water-based coatings.

Can I use a China bristle brush with water-based finish?

A China bristle brush like the Wooster 6" is best kept for oil-based coatings. Water makes natural bristle soft and floppy; use a synthetic brush or pad for waterborne finish.
