Why are white T-shirt rags used for staining floors?

White T-shirt rags are soft, absorbent knits that wipe off excess stain evenly, and the white color shows how much stain is coming off.

How should I dispose of rags used with oil-based stain or finish?

Oil-soaked rags can catch fire on their own as they dry. Oil-based finish labels, including Minwax's, direct you to place used rags in a sealed, water-filled metal container before disposal.
